Cam Newton is rapidly putting your LinkedIn resume to shame. He’s the starting quarterback for the NFC Champion Carolina Panthers. He’s the reigning NFL MVP. He’s become an extremely successful pitchman for companies like Dannon Oikos, Gatorade, Beats by Dre, and Under Armour. And, if all that wasn’t enough, he’s now getting into the food truck business. In the words of Jay-Z, “y’all should be afraid of what he’s gon’ do next“.
That’s right. On Sunday, September 18th, Smokn Aces, the food truck named for Cam’s nickname “Ace Boogie”, will hit the streets of Charlotte, North Carolina. That date also happens to be ultra convenient for Newton since he’ll be hosting a 1:00pm home game against the San Francisco 49ers. So, after what should be an easy W on the field, the MVP should make a nice penny in the lot. We’re operating, of course, under the assumption that he plans to park the truck near Bank of America stadium where the Panthers play. Surely he can get the proper permits, right?
When asked why he decided to open a food truck, Cam told WCCB-TV in Charlotte,
“I wanted to be closer to people and to have a chance to be around more people.”
Is the star quarterback lonely? No. He’s just looking to further connect with the local community.
He also stated that proceeds from the truck’s food sales will go towards a program for at-risk individuals in Charlotte.
Early reports say that the truck will serve food that is true to the QB’s pescatarian diet – mostly fish and other seafood dishes. However, there will be some chicken offerings on the menu.
But, the question on everyone’s mind is, will Cam Newton be on the truck cooking? The answer – no. He’ll be there only as a customer outside eating with the fans.
What a guy!
